Abstract: The article provides a detailed analysis of methods for economic assessment of forest ecosystems, starting with the concept of free and inexhaustible forest benefits, widely used in economic practice in the 30s -50s. last century, and ending with a detailed overview of the valuation methods used within the market approach. Based on the analysis and comparison of the content and essence of various approaches and methods for economic assessment of forest ecosystems, it was concluded that the most effective method is the approach of assessing the total economic value. In this connection, it is proposed to use the total economic value of the ecosystem as the main criterion for assessing the value of forest ecosystems of all types. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences, 2024.
