Abstract: A symmetric model of orthogonal coupling of crystals is suggested on the basis of the proportion of spatial scales typical for nucleation of a crystal in the elastic field of a dislocation. The model permits easy evaluation of the number of generations of martensite crystals and of the fraction of formed martensite (the integral one and for any generation). © 2010 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
