Abstract: Dependence of the properties of babbit of grade B83 on the structure formed due to different methods of casting is determined. A novel advanced method of centrifugal casting of babbit B83 is suggested, which ensures crystallization of SnSb and Cu 3Sn intermetallics from a turbulently moving melt. This not only removes segregation but also transfers the acute-angle SnSb intermetallic into a globular form. © 2009 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
