Abstract: The subject of research of our article was the most important component of the engineering infrastructure, that is, automobile roads. In the present article, we have investigated the existing norms and practices in the road construction industry in order to determine degree of their compliance with the modern modes of functioning of the automobile transport, first of all, in respect of the heavy-duty automobile transport. One of the main issues of our investigation was the problem on the proper presentation of various climatic conditions in the specifications, which are used in the course of construction and renovation of the general-purpose automobile roads. In this connection, we have decided that the main issue is the problem of the traffic safety of the heavy-duty automobiles under the conditions of the atmospheric precipitations, as well as under the conditions of the icy roads. In the course of our investigation, we have checked our assumptions through performance of the direct natural experiment. Later on, we have compared results of our experiments with the literature data and we have proposed our recommendations (on the basis of this comparison) in respect of updating relevant specifications on the construction/renovation of the automobile roads. These results were implemented in the course of modernisation of the experimental section of the relevant automobile road. In the course of the testing operation, this experimental section has demonstrated high operation properties and it has ensured substantial saving of material resources. © 2019, (publisher Name).
